2020's have marked an unprecedented period in human history. The enduring impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the accelerating effects of climate change and most recently the Israel-Palestinian conflict, have prominently defined this period. Yet, amid these significant challenges, a collection of truly remarkable stories has been captured by the world's most talented photographers.

The BarTur Photo Awards 2023 celebrates these stories. The awards categories of Climate Change, Unity and Diversity, Faces of Humanity, LEICA Fotographie International / BarTur Photo Award: Photojournalist of the Year and Ann Lesley Bar-Tur Photo Award have never been more appropriate. Over 2500 international photographers took the challenge to share over intimate, tragic, inspiring, and thought-provoking images captured during an unprecedented time in human history.

We received record Levels of submissions. The competition was open to professional and amateur photographers, attracting a record 25,000+ images from 83 countries.

The BarTur Photo Awards waived all entry fees for 2023 submissions and invited photographers from all over the world to submit their work completely free of charge.
